Content Requirements & What We Need From You

Your website is only as strong as the message it delivers. At 10com, we design your site around your content, not the other way around. The better the content, the better the design.

This article outlines what we need to start your project, how to submit content, and what to do if you're writing it yourself.

Why Content Comes First

We can’t start designing your website until we have the content in hand. That’s because content directly shapes:

  • Page layout

  • Section count

  • Headline and callout structure

  • Visual hierarchy and storytelling

When content is provided upfront, the design is faster, more efficient, and more on-brand. Trying to drop content in after the fact causes delays, redesigns, and misalignment.

What We Need to Begin

We require two things before your project can be scheduled:

  1. A completed creative brief

  2. Final written content for all pages
(unless you’ve purchased a content writing package)

How to Submit Your Content

  • Use your client portal and upload your content inside the correct thread or order

  • Organize content by page: Home, About, Services, Contact, etc.

  • Submit your content in Word, Google Docs, or PDF format

  • Avoid sending text across scattered emails, messages, or screenshots

If your content isn’t ready and you want to move forward without delay, we recommend upgrading to a content writing package

What Happens If Content Is Missing

We cannot start your project until both the creative brief and final content are received.

If content is missing or delayed:

  • Your project will be placed in our holding queue

  • It won’t be scheduled for production until everything is in hand

  • Gaps in content lead to gaps in progress

Tips for Writing Your Own Content

If you’d like to write your own content, here are some pointers to help streamline the process and avoid delays.

What Pages to Write For

At minimum, we recommend having content for:

  • Homepage — intro, who you are, what you do, and a clear call to action

  • About Page — your story, values, what makes you different

  • Services or Products Page(s) — what you offer, who it’s for, how it helps

  • Contact Page — business hours, location, contact info, inquiry prompt

  • FAQ or Policy Pages — optional but helpful for certain industries

Best Practices for DIY Content

  • Make it skimmable — use bold headlines with 1 to 3 lines of supporting text

  • Avoid large blocks of text — visitors are more likely to scroll past if it looks like work

  • Be clear and conversational — write like you’re talking to a customer

  • Break content into sections using subheadings

  • Highlight key benefits, not just features

  • End with a clear call to action

How Content Impacts SEO and Why It Matters

Content isn’t just for design — it’s the foundation of your visibility on Google. Every word you publish tells search engines what your business does, where you operate, and what you should rank for.

If you want to be found online, your content strategy matters just as much as your design.

Why More Pages Usually Means More Visibility

From an SEO standpoint, larger, well-structured websites tend to perform better than smaller ones. More high-quality content leads to:

  • A wider range of keywords your site can rank for

  • More indexed pages that attract different types of search traffic

  • A deeper footprint in search engine algorithms

Service Pages

If you're a service-based business, you should have a dedicated page for each service you offer.

  • Google favors pages that are specific and focused

  • It’s easier to rank for service-specific keywords

  • You can customize messaging and calls to action per service

  • It improves both SEO performance and user experience

Location Pages

If you serve multiple cities or regions, you’ll need individual city pages to rank effectively in each area.

  • Google uses location-specific content to match local intent

  • One generic service page won’t rank well in multiple markets

  • City pages help you dominate search results in each location you serve

Example: A landscaping company in Dallas that also serves Fort Worth and Arlington should have a separate, optimized page for each city.

Where to Start

If you want your website to generate real traffic, leads, and revenue — content is key. You can start with:

Not sure which option is right for you? Your project manager can help guide you based on your goals.

Why Content Matters

Content does more than fill space on your site. It influences how people perceive your business, how they interact with your brand, and whether they choose to take action.

Well-written content:

  • Builds trust and credibility

  • Increases user engagement and time on site

  • Drives conversions by guiding visitors to take the next step

  • Fuels SEO, helping you get found by customers searching for your services

Google has made it clear — they reward websites that provide helpful, original, well-written content. If your content is vague, generic, or thin, you’ll struggle to rank and convert.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you design the site first and add the content later?
No. We design around the content. Adding it later would break the layout and require rebuilding the structure. This creates more work, more cost, and slower results.

Q: Can I send the content in pieces?
We strongly recommend submitting all content in one update. Scattered submissions lead to confusion, missed sections, and unnecessary delays.

Q: What if I don’t know what to write?
That’s what our writing team is here for. You can upgrade at any time. Just let your project manager know or purchase a writing package here

Q: Do I need more pages if I want to improve SEO?
Yes. The more relevant, high-quality content you have, the more opportunities you have to rank in search results. Focused, well-written pages make a difference.

Q: Can I just use one page for all my services or locations?
You can, but we don’t recommend it. To rank effectively for each service or location, you need a dedicated page for each one.

Q: Will the content I provide be optimized for SEO?
Only if you write it that way. If SEO is your goal, we recommend upgrading to our writing services so content is properly structured and aligned with search intent.

Q: Can I add more content or pages later?
Absolutely. Wix makes it easy to expand your site, and we’re here to support you as you grow. You can add content yourself or explore our ongoing SEO packages.
